Antique soul, architectural frame.
An old mine cut carries the light of a different century. The soft square outline, the high crown, the small pinhole culet — these are the marks of a stone cut before electric light, shaped to glow under candle flame rather than throw sparkle under a spotlight. It reads warmer and slower than a modern brilliant, and once you have seen one next to a round you do not unsee the difference.
We set it in a heavy bezel with four corner prongs. The bezel does the protecting; the prongs pick up the stone's corners so the square silhouette stays legible instead of disappearing into a frame. The profile sits low to the finger, which is what makes a large old mine cut genuinely wearable rather than something you take off to do anything.
Why this one
- The corners stay visible. Four structural corner prongs keep the square outline readable — a plain bezel would round it away.
- Wearable at scale. Low-set and fully bezelled, so even four or five carats survives a normal life.
- Genuinely one of one. Old mine cuts vary stone to stone; no two of these rings are the same.

Choosing your center stone
Available with an old mine cut center from 1 to 5 carats. The price shown is the 1-carat configuration. Every step up is quoted at what the stone actually costs me plus a fixed margin — not a multiple. Past roughly two and a half carats that margin is capped, so the larger the stone, the closer you pay to my cost.
A note specific to this design: old mine cuts are not interchangeable the way modern rounds are. Proportions, crown height and culet size vary from stone to stone, and supply at any given weight is thin. Your stone is chosen rather than ordered — I will source options in your range and show you each one on video in the tweezers before anything is set. Expect this to take longer than a modern cut, and expect the final piece to be genuinely one of one.

Styling
An old mine cut holds its own alone, and at three carats and above I would leave it there. If you want a band, a thin knife-edge in the same metal sharpens the bezel's lines without competing — a milgrain band will fight the stone's softness rather than echo it.
A note from Gabrielle: antique cuts are where the quiet-luxury shift has actually landed. People are choosing a stone with character over a stone with maximum sparkle, and setting it in warm gold rather than white. It is a slower kind of taste, and it tends to hold up.
